hairstylist from los angeles interview

Jake Andrews: Hello Leslie, thank you for taking the time to speak with me today.

Leslie Brown: Hi Jake, thanks for having me.

JA: So, as a local independent hair stylist, what are some of the current hair styles that you've been seeing a lot of clients requesting?

LB: Recently, we've seen a lot of clients asking for natural, textured hairstyles. People are looking for a more effortless look, and are opting for styles that can be easily maintained at home. We've also seen a big trend towards natural curls, with clients asking for ways to enhance and define their curls.

JA: That's interesting. What do you love most about being a hair stylist?

LB: I love making people feel good about themselves. When a client sits in my chair, they're often feeling vulnerable, but by the time they leave, they have a renewed sense of confidence. It's incredibly rewarding to be able to make a difference in someone's day, or even their life.

JA: What are some of the things you dislike about the job?

LB: It can be difficult to manage client expectations, especially when they come in with a specific image in mind that may not be achievable with their hair type or current condition. It can also be physically demanding, spending long hours on your feet, and having to use your hands constantly.

JA: Are there any hair care products that you particularly love or recommend to your clients?

LB: I'm a big fan of the Olaplex line of hair care products. Their bond-building technology is a game changer for people with damaged or chemically treated hair. I also really like the Kevin Murphy brand for styling products, as they are environmentally friendly and use natural ingredients.

JA: I've heard great things about those brands. Can you tell me a little bit about your favorite hair shears?

LB: Absolutely, my favorite shears are the Saki Kodachi shears from Saki Shears. They are incredibly sharp and precise, and they have a great balance and weight. They're also very durable and hold their edge well.

JA: What are some of your future plans as a hair stylist?

LB: I'd love to open my own salon one day, but for now, I'm focused on growing my client base and expanding my skill set. I'm also working on building my online presence and experimenting with different ways to market myself and my business on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

JA: That's great. You mentioned you're working on building your online presence, Can you tell me more about the strategies you use for that?

LB: Sure, I make sure to post frequently on my Instagram and TikTok account, showcasing my work, giving hair care tips and tutorials, and sharing behind-the-scenes content from my salon. I also try to engage with my followers and other hair stylists on social media to build a community.

JA: That sounds like a great strategy. Is there anything else you'd like to share with our readers?

LB: Just that I'm incredibly passionate about my craft and I love making people feel good about themselves. I'm always striving to improve and grow as a stylist, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with my clients and help them look and feel their best.

JA: That was a great interview, Leslie. It's clear that you have a passion for your craft and that you truly care about your clients. Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers before we finish?

LB: Just that I am always looking for ways to improve and learn more about the latest hair trends and techniques. I encourage all stylists to continue to grow and educate themselves, and for clients to trust in their stylist's expertise and communicate their needs clearly. I want to thank you for the opportunity to share my story and experience, I hope it will be informative and helpful for others.

JA: Thank you again, Leslie, for taking the time to speak with us today. We wish you all the best in your continued success as a hair stylist.

LB: Thank you Jake, It was a great pleasure to speak with you.

JA: And there you have it, folks. We hope you enjoyed learning more about Leslie's journey as a hair stylist and her expert insights on hair trends, hair care products, and social media strategies.
